5 Youngest Coaches in UEFA Champions League 2021/2022

The 2021/2022 UEFA Champions League competition has entered its 5th week. There are 11 teams qualify for the round of 16 for now. European clubs struggled with makeshift squads, even mostly young players to be able to show off on the pitch.

Not only that, some of the coaches in this event are still under 50 years old. Some of them were appointed to train recently. This proves who deserves to be the best coach on the European continent. Here are the five youngest coaches in the 2021/2022 UEFA Champions League:

1. Matthias Jaissle (RB Salzburg - 33 years)

The youngest coach in the UEFA Champions League this season is RB Salzburg coach, Matthias Jaissle. This German coach started his coaching career at RB Leipzig junior level in 2014. Matthias Jaissle is known to have retired as a footballer with German club, TSG Hoffenheim, in early 2014.

He himself has only been appointed as coach of RB Salzburg since 2021/2022. Previously, he handled the Austrian League club, FC Liefering. The club itself is in Group G and is still likely to qualify for the round of 16 after RB Salzburg is in second place in the current Group G standings.

2. Julian Nagelsmann (Bayern Munich - 34 years)

At a very young age, which is 34 years old, Julian Nagelsmann is trusted to handle the German giant club, Bayern Munich. Previously, he coached Bayern Munich's rivals, RB Leipzig, for 2 seasons. Julian Nagelsmann himself started his coaching career as an assistant coach at another German club, TSV 1860 Munich U-17, in 2008. At that time, he was still 21 years old.

Julian Nagelsmann has experience appearing in the UEFA Champions League with his two previous clubs, namely TSG Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig. This season, Julian Nagelsmann has successfully brought Bayern Munich to ensure that they qualify for the last 16 even though there is one game left in the group stage. For a while, Bayern Munich managed to achieve perfect points, which is 15 points from a total of 5 matches.

3. Ruben Amorim (Sporting Lisbon - 36 years)

Ruben Amorim is the youngest coach in Europe's top competition this season. The Sporting Lisbon coach has started his coaching career since 2018/2019 by managing Portuguese club Casa Pia. He himself was recruited by Sporting Lisbon since mid-2019/2020. Previously, he coached another Portuguese club, SC Braga.

During his time as coach of Sporting Lisbon, Ruben Amorim won 1 Portuguese League title, 1 Portuguese Cup title, and 1 Portuguese Super Cup title. In the UEFA Champions League competition, Ruben Amorim has the opportunity to bring his club through to the round of 16 by occupying the 2nd position in Group C standings.

4. Florian Kohfeldt (Wolfsburg - 39 years)

The next young coach is Florian Kohfeldt who is now in charge of German club Wolfsburg. Starting his coaching career since 2009, Florian Kohfeldt coached Werder Bremen junior and senior until the end of 2020/2021.

Wolfsburg club belief in appointing Florian Kohfeldt began after sacking the previous coach, Mark van Bommel, due to a series of poor results obtained recently. Just like the others, Florian Kohfeldt has the opportunity to bring Wolfsburg through to the round of 16 even though they are currently in the last position of Group G standings.

5. Michael Carrick (Manchester United - 40 years)

The last name is Michael Carrick, who was recently appointed as interim coach of Manchester United. Previously, Manchester United sacked coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. They replaced Solskjaer with Michael Carrick who used to be his assistant.

Michael Carrick's coaching career began in 2018/2019 by filling the position as assistant coach. Meanwhile, Michael Carrick's debut as interim coach of Manchester United occurred when he defeated Villarreal in the 2021/2022 UEFA Champions League with a final score of 2-0 on Tuesday (11/23/2021). Thus, Michael Carrick has the opportunity to bring Manchester United through to the round of 16. They are currently at the top of Group F with 10 points.
